Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark announced the holding of the training workshop intended to teach the concepts of geopark and geotourism to 60 school teachers from Shahab District of the island.

According to Public Relations of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Alireza Amri Kazemi stated that constant and efficient interaction between the Management of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark and Shahab District’s Department of Education as well as proper orientation of scientific, promotional and educational programmes are among the main missions of this management.

He added: “Management of Qeshm Global Geopark has organized the ‘Introduction to Concepts of Geopark and Geotourism’ training workshop in an attempt to facilitate and promote exchange of information and ideas so that communication approach becomes an effective source of quality improvement in teaching process.”

Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark pointed out that the villages in Shahab District of Qeshm Island have hosted scientific and promotional programmes of this management on numerous occasions due to the fact that most of Qeshm Global Geopark sites with geological and geomorphological significance are in the western part of the island and that was the reason behind holding the first training course for 60 teachers in the conference hall of Mollasadra High School in Tabl village.

He expressed that introducing the concepts of geoscience and geological phenomena in Qeshm to school teachers brings about progress and enhancement in teaching methodology and students’ learning process as embassadors of Geopark and a great asset to geoscience and geotourism.

On the report of Amri Kazemi, the topics covered in the course were presented in partnership with the Middle East Institute of Geology and as it was well-received by the participants, he added, further educational projects and training courses are amongst the objectives of this management in order to develop and promote specialized knowledge of Geopark-related programmes and concepts of geoscience at a national as well as international level.

According to this report, Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark, comprising an area of over 2063 square kilometers in south of Iran, is the first geopark in the Middle East with countless tourism potentials.
