Participation of 20 Locals in the Educational Course on Karst Geology and Geomorphology

Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark announced that 20 local trainees attended an educational workshop on karst geology and geomorphology that has been held by Qeshm Free Area Organization with the intention of raising knowledge about geoscience and Qeshm Salt Dome.


Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark announced that 20 local trainees attended an educational workshop on karst geology and geomorphology that has been held by Qeshm Free Area Organization with the intention of raising knowledge about geoscience and Qeshm Salt Dome.

Alireza Amri Kazemi, according to the Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Area Organization, stated: as Qeshm Salt Dome geosite and its collection of caves (particularly N3 as the longest salt cave in the world) are recognized internationally, it is vital to educate all parties involved in the tourism industry on the island about its features and significance.

He added that Qeshm Free Area Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Committee held this workshop to help the tourism industry generate economic benefits from this natural attraction.

As stated by Amri Kazumi, cartography, mineralogy, rocks, faults and caves, mechanism of karst formations and landforms, karst springs, erosive agents, caves expansion and reading geological maps were among the topics addressed in this training course that was well-received by sports tourism lovers in the island.

He added that training professional cavers, introducing related jobs in the field such as cave leaders and photographers as well as establishing caving clubs were considered in this workshop.

Qeshm Free Area Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Committee expressed their gratitude for considerable support of Morteza Sheikh Zadeh, Cultural, Social and Tourism Deputy of Qeshm Free Area Organization, and Alireza Amri Kazemi, Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark. Executive and technical members who cleaned and installed N3 cave specification board and also active participants in the caving course were given certificates of appreciation.
