Understanding the Advantages of Life in Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark

Comprehensive training program with the aim of familiarizing the local community with the advantages and opportunities of life on the territory of Geopark Qeshm have planned. Familiarity with the Geopark basic concept is necessary to utilizing the advantage of living in Geopark. This program is being implemented using the expertise of Geopark staff.

The first international meeting and workshop on UNESCO Global Geoparks was held in Qeshm Island during 28th-30th April 2018. The event was attended by senior officials from the Department of Environment, Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, and the Industries Ministry among other relevant entities. Foreign participants included Nicolas Surros, chief of the Global Geopark Network, Secretary of UNESCO’s International Geoscience Program Patrick James McKeever and Esther Kuisch Laroche, head of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Tehran. The conference brought together 250 local participants and representatives from over 20 foreign countries.

Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark announced the registration of Qeshm Geopark Trail Running in ITRA ( International Trail Running Association ) with qualifying points to sign up for UTMB ( Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc ) race prior to the second Geopark Marathon in Qeshm Island.

Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark announced the joint action of 40 Geopark partners, Rural governors and members of the Islamic Council of Kaani village to clean up the 12 km route to Qeshm Island`s Namakdan Cave Geosite on Friday, March 2nd.

Qeshm GeoParkTrail 2018 is a trail running race in Qeshm Island, Hormozgan province, Iran. The race has been held in the center of the island and among several villages and inside the international Qeshm Geopark. The path goes through significant geological heritage of the island. The race is in two sizes: +30 km and the elevation gain of 450 m+ +60 km and the elevation gain of about 900 m

The International Workshop and Meeting on UNESCO Global Geoparks decided to postpone the event due to some arrangement concerns. The new date (probably the late April) will be announced shortly.
