Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark announced the joint action of 40 Geopark partners, Rural governors and members of the Islamic Council of Kaani village to clean up the 12 km route to Qeshm Island`s Namakdan Cave Geosite on Friday, March 2nd.

According to Public Relations of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Alireza Amri Kazemi stated that the geosites in Qeshm Geopark are invaluable landscapes formed over different geological periods and by ecological evolution and we must all make diligent efforts to protect and conserve them for the next generations.

He said that Namakdan Cave, formed inside the Salt Dome, is in fact the longest salt cave in the world, over 6000 meters in length and located in southwestern part of Qeshm Island, about 130 kilometers away from Qeshm city.

As stated by the Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark, the Salt Cave along with its numerous scenic and eye-catching phenomena has taken tens of thousands of years to form and being considered such a vulnerable geosite protection and conservation actions should be thus prioritized.

He added that each piece of beautiful salt formation on the ceiling or walls of the Salt Cave needs tens or hundreds of years to reform if damaged or destroyed in any way; hence extreme caution by visitors is required to maintain the beauties of this unique and exceptional phenomenon.

Amri Kazemi believes that the natural beauty of Namakdan Cave is a heritage for posterity; children and grandchildren of those who visit this exquisite geological phenomenon.
