Director of the UNESCO Office in Iran, Qeshm Global Geopark considered a valuable asset in the Middle East, and the pride of the Iranian people and the local community.


According to Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Esther Kuisch Laroche, at the first international conference, and the Training-Specialized workshop of UNESCO Global Geoparks developement on Qeshm Island, said: The geosites of Qeshm Island are the reflect of the ecological and cultural heritage of Iran and People's proud glory of having a global geopark in Qeshm is evident in participating and creating new jobs, participating in training courses, improving service quality and creating new sources of income.

Director of the UNESCO Office in Iran stated: Following the adoption of the new UNESCO World Geoparks Knowledge at the UNESCO General Conference in 2015, geoparks have been recorded with unique opportunities to help achieve global development goals and help to integrate geographic areas.

In describing the goals of developing geoparks, laroch explained: Creating economic benefits for local communities and the development of sustainable tourism, linking geological heritage with other aspects of the natural and cultural heritage of the region, in order to raise awareness and understand key issues facing the community, such as the use of sustainable land resources, the effects of climate change and reduction Environmental hazards are among the most important goals of the development of geoparks.

He emphasized the unique geological, archeological, and environmental features of the Qeshm global geopark, adding: The methods of sweeping and preserving and collecting water, the presence of handicrafts, native rituals, tangible and intangible cultural heritage, wildlife and special plant ecosystems and mangroves on the coastline are of noteworthy features in this area.Director of the UNESCO Office in Iran stated: Extending training on the island's heritage, linking it to the natural and cultural geografic heritage, engaging local people to preserve and protect their culture and raise awareness for better understanding of dangers such as earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis can be in management and development policies A regional one.

The first international conference and workshops on the development of UNESCO World Geoparks in the Islamic Republic of Iran were held in the Qeshm Free Area with the participation of Morteza Bank, Advisor to the President and Secretary General of the Free and Special Economic Areas.Esther Kuisch Laroche,Director of the UNESCO Office in Iran,Mahin Gazani, Secretary of the Committee of the National Commission for UNESCO of Tehran, Patrick McCeur, UNESCO's Program Director for International Geosciences and Geospatial Affairs, Nicolas Zurros, Head of the UNESCO World Geoparks Network, Razieh Lak, Head of Geological Survey of Iran, Hamidreza Momeni, Managing Director and Parvin Farshchi member of the Board of Directors of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Alireza Amirkazemi, director of Global Geopark of Qeshm, and deputies and directors of the Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Free and Special Economic Areas attended the ceremony.

In the ceremony also unveiled the national stamp "Qeshm Global Geopark".
