A memorandum of cooperation between Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark and the first proposed geopark of Russia
The official member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Assessment Center and Managing Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark, announced the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Qeshm's Global Geopark, with the first proposed Yangan Tao geopark in Russia.
According to Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Zone, Alireza Amri Kazemi stated: At the same time as studying the proposed geopark of Russia, during his trip to Russia, along with Professor Arthurzas from Portugal, as representatives of the UNESCO World Geoparks, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation of Qeshm Geopark, and the proposed Geopark of Russia.
The local community, the arm of the development of geosites in the west of Qeshm Island
Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark Directorate has called for the participation of local communities in the development of infrastructure and promotion of the geosites of the west of the Island.
According to Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Alireza Amri Kazemi told reporters:
In order to develop a balanced infrastructure and develop geotourism in the west of the island, in 2018, a plan for the development of geosites of the west of island was drafted by Geopark management.

The deputy of the country's environmental organization and non-executive member of the Qeshm Free Area Organization, considered the global Qeshm geopark registration as a national honor, and expressed hope that this geopark would be used not only in the country but also in the Middle East and Asia as a successful model.
According to Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Parvin Farshchi,at the first international conference and UNESCO World-Geo-Parks Development Training-specialized Workshop in Qeshm Island, said: The existence of a geopark in a region means the Flourishing of culture and increasing the participation of people in decision making and management.
Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark, the only Geopark registered in the UNESCO International Geoparks Network in the Middle East
Mahin Gazani, Head of the Science Department of the National Commission of Iranians of UNESCO, referred to the Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark as the only geopark registered in the UNESCO International Geoparks Network in the Middle East.

Nickolas Zouros, Chief of the Global Geopark Network, referred to Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark as a Factor for Supporting Local Communities.
According to Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Nickolas Zouros, at the first international conference and UNESCO World-Geo-Parks Development Training-specialized Workshop in Qeshm Island, referring to the role of Qeshm's global geoparks in supporting local communities, said: Qeshm Global Geopark has a key role to play in supporting local communities and helping to improve the lives and livelihoods of local people.

Professor Mc Keever, UNESCO's Program Director for International Geosciences and Geospatial Affairs, said: Today, there are 17 countries from all over the world on Qeshm Island to take advantage of the valuable experiences of the Global Geopark of Qeshm in the sustainable development of local communities and the conservation of geological heritage.

According to Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Esther Kuisch Laroche, at the first international conference, and the Training-Specialized workshop of UNESCO Global Geoparks developement on Qeshm Island, said: The geosites of Qeshm Island are the reflect of the ecological and cultural heritage of Iran and People's proud glory of having a global geopark in Qeshm is evident in participating and creating new jobs, participating in training courses, improving service quality and creating new sources of income.
The observation of the longest lunar eclipse of the century with the presence of a group of enthusiasts and coordination of the Qeshm Island UGGp, in cooperation with the community of tourism offices and participation of the local community of Qeshm Island was held in the Stars Valley Geosite.

Published on : Aug 8, 2018The first international meeting and workshop on UNESCO Global Geoparks was held in Qeshm Island during 28th-30th April 2018. The event was attended by senior officials from the Department of Environment, Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, and the Industries Ministry among other relevant entities. Foreign participants included Nicolas Surros, chief of the Global Geopark Network, Secretary of UNESCO’s International Geoscience Program Patrick James McKeever and Esther Kuisch Laroche, head of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Tehran. The conference brought together 250 local participants and representatives from over 20 foreign countries.
