Professor Mc Keever, UNESCO's Program Director for International Geosciences and Geospatial Affairs, said: Today, there are 17 countries from all over the world on Qeshm Island to take advantage of the valuable experiences of the Global Geopark of Qeshm in the sustainable development of local communities and the conservation of geological heritage.

According to Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Patrick McCeur,at the first international conference and UNESCO World-Geo-Parks Development Training-specialized Workshop in Qeshm Island, said: In the past three years, Qeshm Island has witnessed a lot of changes and has become a part of the global geopark family, with its great efforts, and UNESCO is pleased to choose Qeshm Island as a source of information exchange.

He emphasized the need for information exchange and promotion among members of the Global Geopark Network, adding: Qeshm Geopark, as part of the global family of geoparks, can provide a platform for other areas with its own data.

Professor Mc Keever continued: By registering 13 new geoparks last year, 127 geoparks have been registered in 30 countries worldwide.

UNESCO's Program Director for International Geosciences and Geospatial Affairs said: Iran has a great geological heritage and Qeshm can be a model not only in this country but in the world.
