Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark Participates in the 8th Asia Pacific Geoparks Network Symposium

The 8th Asia Pacific Geoparks Network (APGN) Symposium commenced on 8 September 2024 in Non nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, Viet Nam.

The symposium serves as an international platform for the exchange of experience, facilitates the effective implementation of geopark activities, supports the development of UNESCO Global Geoparks and the conservation of their values, showcases their potential and distinctive strengths, and strengthens cooperation among participating countries.

More than 500 representatives from UNESCO Global Geoparks and countries across the Asia-Pacific region are participating in the symposium, including a delegation from Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark.

Alongside the symposium, an exhibition is being held to introduce participating UNESCO Global Geoparks. Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark is hosting a dedicated exhibition stand presenting the island's geological, natural and cultural attractions.

Collaboration and the exchange of experience among UNESCO Global Geoparks play a vital role in strengthening the Network and advancing its programmes.

As the first and oldest UNESCO Global Geopark in the Middle East, Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark is recognised as the UNESCO Global Geoparks Regional Development Centre for its significant achievements in fostering community engagement, encouraging local participation, empowering women, and supporting their leadership in geotourism initiatives.
