The director of Qeshm Island UGGp announced that the second proposed goepark of Russia requested to exchange the memorandum of cooperation and utilize the successful experiences of Qeshm Island UGGp.

According to the public relations and international affairs of the Qeshm Free Zone Area, Sajad Eshgarf announced that the suggested Geopark of Turatao in Russia is the second Russian Geopark evaluated in 2022 by UNESCO evaluators.

He added that according to the evaluation of the seventh meeting of the World Council of UNESCO Geoparks, attendance of this Geopark in the world arena will be postponed until the improvement of some executive programs that are in progress.

According to Mr. Eshgarf, the manager of Turatao Geopark sent an official letter through the UNESCO National Commission of Russia, appealing for a trip to Qeshm Island to exchange experiences and conclude a memorandum with Qeshm Island UGGp. In this regard, while welcoming this request, the officials of this region will travel to Iran and the beautiful Qeshm Island in the coming months. This request is in line with networking activities and the exchange of ideas to raise the standards related to the quality of products and development measures of global geoparks.

In the end, he mentioned that since 2018, in the development and training of geoparks in the region, as well as reviewing the experiences of Qeshm Island in obtaining the green card of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network, Qeshm Island UGGp has played a key role and has been recognized by UNESCO as a successful role model for countries seeking registration a geopark in the region.

It should be mentioned that last year, Qeshm Island UGGp was introduced by UNESCO officials in the international arena as a successful model in the development of participatory management of local communities as well as the leading role of women in the management of geo-tourism activities.
