Maintaining Quality and Promoting Local and Specialized Knowledge, new Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark Approach

Qeshm Global Geopark Director, maintaining quality, promoting the level of activities and continuing development has been the factor behind the consolidation of Qeshm's global geopark in the region.

According to Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Zone Organization, Alireza Amri Kazemi stated: The most important priority of Qeshm Global Geopark in 2018 is to plan for deficiencies and growth over the past three years, so that we can maintain the position we have achieved with great effort.

According to Public Relations and International Affairs of Qeshm Free Zone Organization, Alireza Amri Kazemi stated: The most important priority of Qeshm Global Geopark in 1397 is to plan for deficiencies and growth over the past three years, so that we can maintain the position we have achieved with great effort.

He referred to environmental, developmental, geo-site organization and geological studies as part of these programs, adding: Education, economic development, and the assignment of management to Qeshm's local community are the most basic plans this year.

Director of Geopark Qeshm, the development of training on the geographical heritage of the island and linking it to the natural and cultural heritage, said the involvement of local people in order to preserve and protect their culture and raise awareness to lead to regional and management policies in the region and said: Geopark Qeshm is the only geopark registered in the UNESCO International Geospatial Network in the Middle East, and is responsible for maintaining this title.

Referring to the success of Qeshm Global Geopark for joining the UNESCO World Geoparks Network in the spring of 1396, after four years, Amri Kazemi stated: Every four years, geoparks are subject to comprehensive evaluation by the UNESCO Organization and, subject to the principles and criteria, and to the extent that they have developed in their geographical area, are subject to renewal.

He explained in more detail: If geoparks are weak in their ability to upgrade, after receiving the yellow card, they have two years to rectify the deficiencies and update their information so that they can join the UNESCO World Geoparks Network by getting a green card.

The director of Qeshm Global Geopark said the renewal of the license of the UNESCO World Geoparks Network was only due to a joint effort and cooperation with the Qeshm Free Zone Organization and the people of the island.

Amri Kazemi referred to the first international conference on the development of UNESCO World Geoparks in Qeshm Island, adding: The international forum, which was attended by representatives from 22 countries including Western Europe, Central Asia, Middle East and East Asia, and more than 250 participants in May, was voiced by the UNESCO World Geoparks as the focal point of the geoparks in

The Middle East and West Asia region was introduced.

He continued: In this regard, in order to fulfill the valuable responsibility assigned to this management, we are working together to cooperate in educational affairs and consult with other geoparks in the region in the form of a memorandum of understanding.

Director of Geopark of Qeshm International stated: "The conclusion of a memorandum with Russia and Thailand, membership in island geoparks, participation in international and educational conferences, including these activities.

At the first international conference on the development of UNESCO's geoparks, hosted by the global geopark of Qeshm, there were the high-ranking officials such as Nicolas Zurros, Head of the UNESCO World Geoparks Network, and Patrick Mc Keever, UNESCO's Program Director for International Geosciences and Geospatial Affairs, along with Esther Kuisch Laroche, Director of the UNESCO Office in Iran.Also, from the country's officials,we can mention the presence of Morteza Bank, Advisor to the President and Secretary General of the Free and Special Economic Areas, Razieh Lak, Head of Geological Survey of Iran,Parvin Farshchi member of the Board of Directors of Qeshm Free Area Organization,Hamidreza Momeni, Managing Director and CEO of Qeshm Free Zone Organization,and deputies and some of directors of the Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Free and Special Economic Zones.
