مدیر ژئوپارک جهانی قشم گفت: از ثبت ژئوپارک تریل رانیگ قشم در موسسه جهانی تریل رانینگ ITRA با امتیاز ورودی مسابقه اولترا تریل مون بلان UTMB پیش از برگزاری دومین دوره ماراتُن ژئوپارک در این جزیره، خبر داد.

Registration of Qeshm Geopark Trail Running in ITRA ( International Trail Running Association ) / Runner from Qeshm Island Winning 5^th  Place in the 30 Km Route in the International Event

Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark announced the registration of Qeshm Geopark Trail Running in ITRA ( International Trail Running Association ) with qualifying points to sign up for UTMB ( Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc ) race prior to the second Geopark Marathon in Qeshm Island.

According to Public Relations of Qeshm Free Area Organization, Alireza Amri Kazemi expressed that the number of participants doubled compared to last year and a greater increase is expected regarding the number of athletes in this field, particularly foreign entrants, on account of being recognized as an international sports event.

He stated that the second Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark Marathon, named ‘Geopark Trail Running’ and advertised by its practical motto “ Explore by Running “ was held on Thursday, February 8 along two routes; two races of 30 and 60 km. 338 runners from Iran, Germany, England, Turkey and France participated and the winners were announced.

As maintained by Director of Qeshm Island UNESCO Global Geopark, Salakh village was the starting point of the race and the athletes traversed villages of Salakh, Gamberon, Guran, Durbeni, Melki and Tabl, passing through geological phenomena and geosites of the Roof of Qeshm. They also had the chance to learn about the Statues Valley, Cheshmeh Valley, Shour Valley, Chakavir, Salt Dome and geolinks of Qeshm Island.

He mentioned that 15 runners from Qeshm had participated in the event and Saleh Saffari from Haft Rangoo won 5^th place in the 30 km race.

Mohsen Pour noted that the announced results were only based on the finishing time and that the final results would be released after the evaluation of the checkpoints.

He pointed out that Qeshm Geopark Running Trail holds the record among other trail running races in Iran with regard to distance and attractions along the route and it is the only race in Iran that is certified by ITRA with qualifying points to register for UTMB races.

As stated by the Executive Secretary of Qeshm Geopark Trail Running, the success of this project is mostly owed to the full support of Hamid Reza Momeni, the Chairman of the Board and CEO of Qeshm Free Area Organization, active and productive collaboration of well-known trail running and sky running athletes led by Davood Shirkhani as the Head of Administration as well as warm reception and generous hospitality of the local community especially the rural governers and members of the Islamic Councils of Salakh, Gamberon, Tabl, Melki, Durbeni and Guran villages.

According to this report, the sports event took place in collaboration with multiple associations and committees of Qeshm Island, namely, Relief and Rescue Team of Mountaineering and Sport Climbing, Red Crescent, EMS (Emergency Medical Services), Athletics, Off-Road and Motocross committees.
